“Going to rehab in Thailand changed my life…and now I help other women just like me ” – Petra
Like many women my drinking started as just a few glasses of wine after work with friends and maybe a few in the evening with my husband. Fast forward a few years and my drinking was no longer a fun choice but a necessity. Evening drinking became a lunchtime tipple and finally I needed a shot of something just to start the day otherwise my anxiety and stress was through the roof. Without me even noticing I had descended into full blown addiction over a period of 10 years.
I knew I needed help so booked myself into rehab in the UK (twice) for 30 days at a time but I kept on relapsing. I just didn’t fully appreciate that drinking was the symptom of a much deeper problem. I recognized I needed to overhaul every single aspect of the life I was leading as it no longer worked. It led me back time and again to the problem and the bottle.
So in one final attempt to regain my body and soul I came across Hope treatment center in Thailand. I was immediately drawn to it because of their holistic approach to substance misuse. This eclectic program combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and Meditation. Clients are encouraged to exercise and there is an array of fitness options on offer – from traditional Yoga and Pilates to body combat and bike rides around the local area.
The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful and the food is totally delicious as well as healthy. I loved the onsite massages! All the staff are outstanding and genuinely care as well as being experts in the field of addiction recovery. And of course coming to Thailand also helped inspire me, the food, the weather and the people are wonderful.
Hope Rehab Center in Thailand has revolutionized my life – I have so many therapeutic tools at my disposal that I can draw on when things are tough and I’m facing challenging situations. CBT fitness and mindfulness are just some of what I use to help me achieve my wider goals. I have incorporated so many aspects of the daily program into my life, including the mindfulness and meditation and I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. I’m now living sober, genuinely happy and most importantly I have discovered opportunities that previously I could only dream of.
The absolute pinnacle for me has been that today I am helping other woman like me. I’m finally comfortable with who I am. No longer do I feel driven to have a high status career or feel pressured to accumulate as many trappings as possible. I’m more comfortable with my body now than I was in my twenties and have far more peace of mind. My children are now adults and I can finally take my foot off the accelerator and slow down and notice the beautiful world we live in. My greatest joy is to be able to share what I have learnt with the women around me and see them slowly transform as well. Every night I go to bed satisfied and happy and eager for the day ahead, such a change from my earlier life…yet I am also grateful to all I have been through as without that I wouldn’t have what I now do and I wouldn’t want to change a single thing.
I hope that my story inspires you to seek the help that you deserve.
