I am the happiest and healthiest that I have ever been, and it just keeps getting better. I say that with a hand on my heart, as I’ve had many health challenges, especially when I was a busy corporate woman. Today though, I am healthy, and continue to feel sexy because I practice a holistic lifestyle. I delight in practicing many of the simple, feel-good pleasures in life that have proven to be good for me.
Here are some of my favourites:
Kissing- most of us know how good kissing feels, however, science is demonstrating that kissing may have long-term physical and mental benefits. Kissing produces oxytocin (a hormone that promotes calmness and wellbeing), helps combat oral plaque, boosts immunity, burns calories, increases hormone levels, may increase life expectancy, and gives around 30 face muscles a workout while tightening your cheeks and helping you stay wrinkle-free!), so pucker up!
Hugging is good medicine, it transfers energy and gives an emotional lift, and is extremely effective at healing sickness, loneliness, disease, depression, anxiety and stress. Hugging boosts oxytocin, serotonin, and self-esteem, it also balances out the nervous system, reduces the risk of heart disease, and lowers blood pressure. We need four hugs a day for survival, eight for maintenance, and 12 for growth; I’m a hugger, now it’s your turn to be one, cuddle up!
Laughter is the best medicine, How infectious is a good belly laugh? I went to a laughter class (yes, they exist) last year and I am definitely a ‘laugh out loud’ person. Laughter is powerful for stress relief, it strengthens your immune system, protects the heart, defends against respiratory infections, eases anxiety and fear, and improves your mood. Laughter is free, so laugh it up!
Sleep, oh glorious sleep! In my past I burned the candle at both ends and severely deprived my body of much needed shut-eye, sometimes for weeks or months on end. Being exhausted and haggard isn’t healthy, nor is it a good look. Our bodies need sleep to heal; studies show regular pillow time makes you look healthier and more attractive. With ample sleep you will live longer, boost your immune system, function better throughout the day, reduce the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and obesity. Research shows that adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. To get a good night’s sleep, make your bedroom completely dark, calm your brain before bed (no electronic gadgets) and have your last meal at least 3 hours before bedtime, to ensure you keep your ZZZZZ’s up!
Sex is FANTASTIC for you. I enjoy sex, it’s awesome, and my whole body comes alive. Sex can heal your body and mind and prevent many diseases; it’s not called sexual healing for nothing. Sex gets the endorphins, dopamine, and oxytocin flowing, the heart pumping, and blood racing; it can be a good workout with the right partner. Sex is also known to remedy headaches, postpone menopause, relieve PMS symptoms, and stress. Regular sex keeps your pelvic floor muscles toned and increases bone health. Even better, making love three times a week can make you look 10 years younger, claims a Scottish researcher, soLOVE it up!
