At my age, not exercising and not eating a well-balanced diet is a set up for poor health and a flabby body. I have always loved having a flexible toned body, but I have had to work hard, to keep it that way. In my twenties, unlike today, having a huge bottom was not fashionable, so I ran and tried many diets to stay in shape. Admittedly, it’s taken until now at the age of 50, to be happy with my organic diet and body. Experience has also taught me what type of exercise works for my body (and my female clients) and which ones are a waste of time and effort.
I am fortunate to have a bestie, who is also my training partner, and we have both enjoyed keeping fit together since our twenties. It’s such a bonus to also have partner that is consistent and dedicated to working out as Sharon is, and she feels the same way about me.
Here are a few of our most memorable exercises and classes that we have tired throughout our years of working out together.
Aerobics Class: Great for burning calories and gaining aerobic fitness, and we both loved dressing in those wonderful spandex tights and leg warmers!
Step Reebok Class: We enjoyed those classes?
Pump Class: We always enjoyed this full body workout using weights and high reps.
Competitive Body Building: We both dabbled for a few years. I made the cover of Muscle Australia magazine.
Running: I loved 10k and long distance running until I saw the wrinkled face of a regular female runner.
Sprints: Sharon and I do 50/100 meter spirits around September to get our legs and booty ready for the beach.
Yoga: I enjoy regular yoga practice. I also created Beginners Yoga Breath is Life 1, a bestselling yoga video in
Pilates: Not for me but Sharon enjoys it.
Zumba: Both of us were not fans of this fad class.
Bikram Yoga: When we both feel the need for a good body cleansing, we do a class.
Power Walking: Sharon and I meet for our “walk and talk” session along the beach. Using this time to let go of all negativity that might be happening around us and refocus our minds for the week ahead. It’s very therapeutic for both of us physically and mentally. We are true believers of the Law of Attraction, and use our time walking to ask the universe what we like or don’t want, most times positive outcomes will manifest.
Weight training: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a must for any woman at any age!
Interval Training: Pure torture but keeps us fighting fit and firm fast, and we both enjoy that.
So what’s our favourite toning exercise now?
It would have to be weight training three days per week, following my Keep Life Simple Training Routine. We both agree now that we’ve reached 46 and 51 years of age, it’s the only exercise that keeps our muscle and skin tone looking firm. I am a motivated person when it comes to my health and fitness, however on the days when I lack inspiration or just don’t feel like working out, and we all get them, I am grateful to have Sharon, my bestie and training partner.
I’d love to hear from you and appreciate your opinion so please leave a comment on this or any post that resonates with you.
