Why doesn’t my doctor recommend using Bio-identical hormone replacement?
Many women email me regarding this question, and simply put, most Allopathic general practitioners know very little about them. They will however, give you a script for synthetic hormone replacement, as the majority of pharmaceutical companies support their study at medical school. Doctors make money from standardized synthetic hormone (H.R.T) sales.
You might also be asking yourself this question, if bio-identical hormones help you feel better, why aren’t they promoted or advertised by the medical world?
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America don’t approve of compounded products for any condition, because those products aren’t standardized.
What this means is, because every individuals prescription order of bio-identical hormone replacement is individualized, they won’t approve them. They also argue that drugs that are approved undergo a rigorous evaluation process. The process scrutinizes everything about the drug to ensure its safety and effectiveness, and that is not done with bio-identical hormones, which are mixed in compounding pharmacies.
With this in mind, I recommend that you only go to highly respected doctors, who are experts in prescribing Bio-identical hormones. The same can be said of the compounding chemist that you take your script to, to be safe.
This leads me to the biggest reason why I believe the pharmaceutical companies don’t promote compounding products. They can’t make billions from them, like they do the synthetic B.R.T.
It is difficult to patent natural substances, and if pharmaceutical companies cannot make huge profits from a product, they don’t get widely promoted. It’s a sad yet true fact.
Yet, through the power of social media, and celebrities such as best selling Author Suzanne Somers, who has spent more than a decade educating women in the USA about importance of keeping their hormones balanced as they age for good health and wellness. More women are becoming aware about the benefits that come from using bio-identical hormones, and one day it will be the only natural hormone replacement of choice.
