Why doesn’t my doctor recommend using bio-identical hormone replacement Therapy BHRT?
Many women email me regarding this question, and simply put, most allopathic general practitioners know very little about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. They are taught to focus on prescribing Synthetic Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) because pharmaceutical companies support doctor’s studies at medical school. A sad but true fact of the power of the pharmaceuticals companies influence around the world.
You might also be asking yourself this question, if bio-identical hormones help you feel better, why aren’t they promoted or advertised by the medical world?
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America don’t approve of compounded products for any condition, because these products aren’t standardized. What this means is that the TGA will not approve bio -identical hormones because every individuals prescription order is “individualized”. Bio- identical hormones are made up at compounding pharmacies and therefore cannot be monitored by the TGA. They argue that HRT is approved because it has undergone rigorous evaluation process and this process scrutinizes everything about the drug to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
With your saftey in mind I recommend that you only go to highly respected doctors, who are experts in prescribing bio-identical hormones. The same can be said of the script that you take to your compounding chemist!
The biggest reason why many believe the pharmaceutical companies don’t promote compounding products is that they can’t make billions from them, like they do from the synthetic H.R.T. It is difficult to patent natural substances, and if pharmaceutical companies cannot make huge profits or cannot widely promote a product it’s ignored.
Today you cannot deny that bio – identical hormones popularity is growing. The word is spreading about the positive benefits of using these hormones as countless of women continue to praise them on social media. There have also been many positive medical studies conducted, and celebrities such as author Suzanne Somers has written many bestselling books about bio-identical hormone replacement. She also has spent more than a decade educating women in the USA about importance of keeping their hormones balanced as they age for good health and wellness. As more women are becoming aware about the benefits there future seems promising.
